Traffic Tickets in Williamson County

Williamson County is one of the fastest-growing counties in Texas, with Georgetown ranking among the fastest-growing cities in the entire country. I-35 runs north-south through Round Rock and Georgetown, and SH-130 adds a major toll loop on the eastern side. DPS troopers, county deputies, and city police from Georgetown, Round Rock, Cedar Park, and other cities all write citations here.

Traffic citations in Williamson County are Class C misdemeanors. The four JP precincts cover the county and unincorporated areas, while city police citations often go to the relevant municipal court. Georgetown Municipal Court, Round Rock Municipal Court, and Cedar Park Municipal Court each operate independently. Check your citation to see which court is listed.

Paying the fine without appearing is a guilty plea under Art. 27.14(c) of the Texas Code of Criminal Procedure. DPS records that conviction on your driving history. Contact the court before the deadline if you want to contest or seek an alternative outcome.

The county clerk at (512) 943-1150 can direct you to the right JP precinct. For city court matters in Georgetown or Round Rock, contact those courts separately.

Williamson County provides access to JP court records through the county's Justice of the Peace portal at wilco.org/173/Justice-of-the-Peace. This links to the case management system used by the county courts. You can find case status, hearing dates, and payment information for JP court cases there.

The statewide TOPICs citation search at topics.txcourts.gov/CitationsPublic also covers Williamson County JP courts. Search by citation number, name, or driver license number. The tool is maintained by the Texas Office of Court Administration and is free to use.

Williamson County's Justice of the Peace portal provides direct access to JP court case information, including traffic ticket records for citations handled by the county's four precincts.

For Georgetown Municipal Court or Round Rock Municipal Court cases, contact those courts directly. Municipal court records are separate from JP court records and are not included in the county JP portal. The Texas DPS maintains your driver record separately from all court systems.

What the Citation Record Shows

A Williamson County traffic citation record lists the citation number, date and location of the stop, officer details, and the defendant's name and driver license number. The violation code and description identify the law that was broken. The fine and court costs are added once the court sets them.

Once the case is closed, the record shows the outcome: paid, dismissed, deferred, or warrant issued. These records are public in Texas. Get them from the court, the county JP portal, or the state's TOPICs tool. Very old cases may be paper only at the courthouse in Georgetown.

Resolving a Williamson County Traffic Ticket

Pay JP court fines through the county's online payment system accessible from the county JP portal or in person at the precinct court. For city court fines, use those courts' own payment methods. The total you owe is the base fine plus state court costs. Court costs can be substantial, so confirm the full amount before going in.

Deferred disposition under Art. 45.051 CCP is available in both Williamson County JP courts and city municipal courts. The judge holds the case for 90 to 180 days. Meet the conditions and the case is dismissed with no conviction going to DPS. You pay a fee but keep your record clean.

The Driving Safety Course (DSC) under Art. 45.0511 CCP is another option. Take a TDLR-approved course and the court dismisses the citation. Request DSC before your court date, don't hold a CDL, and don't have used DSC in Texas in the past 12 months. Speeding more than 25 mph over the limit disqualifies you. You need a Type 3A certified driving record from DPS, costing $12 online or $10 by mail.

Texas DPS and Driving Records

Traffic convictions from Williamson County JP courts and city municipal courts are reported to the Texas Department of Public Safety. Texas dropped its point system in 2019. Four moving violations in 12 months or seven in 24 months can trigger a DPS license suspension review.

Order your driver record online at the DPS site. A Type 2 three-year record is $6.50. A complete Type 3 history is $7.50. Mail requests go to Texas DPS, P.O. Box 149008, Austin, TX 78714-9008 and take up to three weeks.

Note: Williamson County's rapid growth has made Round Rock and Georgetown among the most active traffic enforcement areas in Central Texas. I-35 through the county is a particularly busy DPS corridor.

Unpaid Tickets and License Holds

An unpaid Williamson County ticket can lead to a warrant and a block on your driver license renewal through the Texas OMNI program. Under Transportation Code Chapter 706, courts report unpaid fines to DPS, which blocks renewal until you pay the fine plus a $10 OMNI fee per ticket.

Check your OMNI status and pay holds at texasfailuretoappear.com. Each unpaid ticket adds its own hold. Clearing them removes the renewal block. This applies to both JP court and municipal court holds.
