JP Courts in Fisher County

With two precincts, Fisher County keeps its court structure fairly lean. Your citation should note which precinct is handling your case. If you're not sure, call the county clerk at (325) 776-2409. They can point you to the right JP and give you the court's contact details.

JP courts handle all Class C misdemeanor traffic offenses in Texas. That covers speeding, failure to yield, improper turns, and other common violations. Fines are set by the judge and can vary. State-mandated fees get added on top of whatever base fine the judge sets, so your total owed may be higher than what the citation shows.

In small counties like Fisher, court staff are often easy to reach by phone and are used to walking people through what they owe and what options they have. Don't hesitate to call.

The TOPICs Citation Search run by the Texas Office of Court Administration is available for most JP courts across the state. Search by your name or citation number. Smaller rural counties may have limited or delayed uploads, so if your ticket is recent, call the court directly if you don't find it online.

For license hold checks, use the Texas Failure to Appear portal. If a Fisher County court reported a missed appearance or unpaid fine, OMNI may have blocked your renewal. You'll need to resolve the underlying case before the hold clears.

Paying Your Fine

Fisher County JP courts are small offices and typically handle payments in person by cash, check, or money order. Call ahead to confirm the court's hours and payment options. Mail-in payment may be accepted depending on the precinct. Ask when you call.

Keep in mind that paying your fine is a guilty plea. Article 27.14(c) of the Texas Code of Criminal Procedure specifies that paying a traffic citation counts as a conviction. Texas DPS records it and it stays on your driving history. If you want to keep your record clean, ask about alternatives before you pay.

Deferred Disposition

Deferred disposition under Article 45.051 is the most straightforward path to dismissal. Ask before your court date to have the case put on hold, typically for 90 days. If you stay out of trouble, the ticket gets dismissed. A fee usually applies, and the judge decides whether to grant it. In small counties, asking politely and early tends to go well for minor first offenses.

Defensive Driving Course

Article 45.0511 of the Texas Code of Criminal Procedure allows a ticket to be dismissed if you complete a state-approved defensive driving course. Requirements: ask before your court date, no DSC use in the past year, no CDL, and not going 25+ mph over the speed limit. You'll need a certified Type 3A driving record from Texas DPS, which costs $12. Approved courses are licensed by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. After you finish, submit your certificate and driving record to the court and the ticket is dismissed.

Driving Records and State Tools

Your Texas driving record is managed by DPS. Order it at dps.texas.gov or mail Form DR-1 to Texas DPS, P.O. Box 149008, Austin, TX 78714-9008. Type 1 costs $4.50, Type 2 is $6.50, and Type 3A (certified) is $12. Texas eliminated the point system in 2019, but four or more violations in 12 months or seven in 24 months still puts your license at suspension risk.

Full Texas statutes are at statutes.capitol.texas.gov. The Transportation Code's OMNI chapter is at Chapter 706. The state driver services page is at texas.gov/driver-services.
