Note: Paying a Texas traffic ticket is a guilty plea under Art. 27.14(c) of the Code of Criminal Procedure. The conviction is sent to DPS and can affect your driving record and insurance. Think through defensive driving and deferred disposition options before you pay any moving violation.

Payment Options

Pharr Municipal Court accepts payment online through the city portal at pharr-tx.gov. You can also pay in person at 118 S Cage Blvd, by phone during business hours, or by mail with a check or money order. Write your citation number on any payment you send to ensure it is applied to the right case.

Get the exact fine total before paying. The base fine on your ticket does not include mandatory state fees and court costs that Texas law requires courts to collect. Your actual total will be higher. Confirm the amount by calling the court, checking online, or visiting in person before you submit payment.

Missing your court date can lead to a judgment against you and an OMNI hold on your driver's license. The OMNI program blocks renewal until you pay the overdue fine plus a $10 OMNI surcharge. Resolve holds at texasfailuretoappear.com. This program is authorized by Transportation Code Chapter 706, at statutes.capitol.texas.gov.

Defensive Driving Dismissal

Art. 45.0511 of the Code of Criminal Procedure allows Pharr Municipal Court to dismiss a qualifying traffic citation when you complete an approved defensive driving course. Request this option before your court date. Once you enter any plea, this path is typically closed.

To be eligible, you must not have completed a defensive driving course to dismiss another citation in the past 12 months. CDL holders who were driving a commercial vehicle at the time are not eligible. Tickets from accidents with serious injury and certain serious offense types are also excluded. If the court approves, it sets a fee and gives you typically 90 days to complete the course and file the certificate.

Find a TDLR-approved course at tdlr.texas.gov. Both online and in-person formats are available. Submit the certificate to Pharr Municipal Court, and the case is dismissed as a Type 3A on your DPS record. No conviction, no DPS points, and no insurance increase tied to that ticket. Save the certificate even after the case closes.

Deferred Disposition

Art. 45.051 of the Code of Criminal Procedure allows Pharr Municipal Court to defer a traffic case for a probation period, typically 90 to 180 days. If you comply with the judge's conditions during that time and have no new violations, the case is dismissed at the end. No conviction is entered on your record.

This option can apply even when defensive driving is not available, such as when you have already used it in the past year. The judge has discretion to grant or deny deferred disposition and to set the conditions. Some judges require defensive driving as a condition. Others may simply require you to avoid new violations. Ask Pharr Municipal Court before your court date what conditions are typically set for deferred disposition in that court.
