The city's web portal at missiontexas.us has links to court services and other city resources. For Hidalgo County JP citations, the county has eight JP precincts spread across the Rio Grande Valley region. Use the TOPICs statewide portal to quickly identify which court holds your case if you are not sure whether your ticket is a city or county matter.

Start with the TOPICs statewide citation portal at topics.txcourts.gov/CitationsPublic. This tool covers Mission Municipal Court and all Hidalgo County JP courts. Enter your citation number, name, or driver's license number to find your case. TOPICs shows you which court has the case, the status, and any upcoming hearing date.

You can also call Mission Municipal Court at (956) 580-8600. Staff members are available in both English and Spanish. Have your ticket number ready when you call. Staff can confirm whether your case is in municipal court, give you the exact fine amount, and explain what options you have. Walk-in visits are welcome at 1201 E 8th St during regular business hours. The city website at missiontexas.us may offer online payment tools and court information.

For Hidalgo County JP citations from county deputies or DPS troopers in unincorporated areas, contact the specific Hidalgo County JP precinct for your area. Hidalgo County's eight precincts each cover a different part of the county. TOPICs can identify the right precinct without guesswork.

Note: Under Art. 27.14(c) of the Code of Criminal Procedure, paying a Texas traffic ticket is a guilty plea. DPS receives the conviction and it can stay on your record for years, potentially raising your insurance costs. Defensive driving and deferred disposition are worth considering before you pay a moving violation.

Payment Options

Mission Municipal Court accepts payment online through the city portal at missiontexas.us. In-person payment is available at 1201 E 8th St during regular business hours. You can also pay by phone or mail a check or money order with your citation number written on it. Payment options apply to both English and Spanish speakers. Staff can assist in either language.

Always confirm the exact amount before paying. The fine shown on your ticket is just the base amount. Texas courts add state fees and court costs on top of that. The total you owe will be higher. Get the correct total from the court online, by phone, or in person before you submit any payment.

Missing your Mission court date can result in a judgment and an OMNI hold that blocks your license renewal. To clear the hold, you pay the fine plus a $10 OMNI surcharge. Resolve holds at texasfailuretoappear.com. The OMNI program is authorized by Transportation Code Chapter 706, available at statutes.capitol.texas.gov.

Defensive Driving Dismissal

Art. 45.0511 of the Code of Criminal Procedure allows Mission Municipal Court to dismiss a qualifying traffic ticket when you complete an approved defensive driving course. Request this before your court date. Once you enter a plea, this option is typically no longer available.

To qualify, you must not have completed a defensive driving course to dismiss another citation in the 12 months before this ticket. CDL holders who were operating a commercial vehicle at the time are excluded. Tickets from accidents with serious injury or death and some offense types are also not eligible under statute. If the court grants the request, it sets a fee and gives you typically 90 days to complete a TDLR-approved course and file the certificate with the court.

Find a TDLR-approved course at tdlr.texas.gov. Courses are available online and in person, with some offered in Spanish as well. Submit your completion certificate to Mission Municipal Court, and the case is dismissed as a Type 3A on your DPS record. No conviction, no insurance impact, and no DPS points from that ticket. Save your certificate after the dismissal.

Deferred Disposition

Art. 45.051 of the Code of Criminal Procedure allows Mission Municipal Court to defer a traffic case for a probation period, usually 90 to 180 days. If you comply with the conditions the judge sets and avoid new violations during that time, the case is dismissed at the end of the period. No conviction goes on your record.

This option can apply even if you have already used defensive driving in the past year. The judge decides whether to grant it and what the conditions are. Some Mission judges require defensive driving as part of the deferral. Others may ask for community service or simply require a clean record during the period. Ask the court before your court date what to expect. Staff can explain the process in English or Spanish.
