Lubbock Municipal Court

Lubbock Municipal Court handles traffic citations issued by Lubbock Police within city limits. The city's website at ci.lubbock.tx.us provides links to the municipal court section, where you can find the courthouse address, phone number, hours, and online payment portal. Court hours are generally Monday through Friday during standard business hours.

Lubbock is the largest city on the South Plains of Texas and the county seat of Lubbock County. The municipal court processes a large volume of Class C traffic cases each year. If you need to appear in person, arrive with your citation and a valid photo ID. The court clerks can answer questions about your case, payment options, and eligibility for defensive driving or deferred disposition.

If your ticket was issued by a Lubbock County constable or sheriff deputy rather than Lubbock Police, the case goes to a Lubbock County JP court. Those records and payment systems are separate from the city court. The agency listed on your citation will tell you which system applies.

Visit the City of Lubbock's site at ci.lubbock.tx.us and look for the municipal court section. From there you can access the case search tool, which lets you look up citations by citation number, name, or other identifying information. This is the primary starting point for Lubbock Municipal Court records.

The statewide TOPICs portal at topics.txcourts.gov/CitationsPublic also covers Lubbock Municipal Court. If you are not certain which court holds your case, start with TOPICs and search your name or citation number. Results appear for any Texas court where your citation is on file.

For citations issued by county officers, contact Lubbock County JP courts directly. The county and city court systems do not share a single search portal. Look at the agency listed on your ticket before you search.

Note: In Texas, paying a traffic fine equals a guilty plea under Art. 27.14(c) CCP. DPS records the conviction on your driving record. Moving violations can increase insurance costs. Consider defensive driving or deferred disposition before you pay, particularly for speeding citations.

Payment Options

Pay online through the Lubbock Municipal Court portal linked on the city website at ci.lubbock.tx.us. Online payment accepts credit and debit cards and is typically available any time of day or night. This is the most convenient option if you decide to pay and want to avoid a courthouse visit.

In-person payment is accepted at Lubbock Municipal Court during regular business hours, Monday through Friday. Bring your citation and a valid ID. Cash, check, money order, and card are generally accepted. Confirm the current accepted payment methods by calling the court or checking the city website before you make the trip, especially for cash payments.

Mail-in payment by check or money order is also accepted. Write your citation number on the memo line and send to the address listed on your ticket or on the city website. Allow enough processing time before your court date to avoid a failure to appear.

Defensive Driving (DSC)

Lubbock Municipal Court allows eligible drivers to take a state-approved defensive driving course to get their citation dismissed. Under Art. 45.0511 CCP, you must request DSC before your court date. You cannot have completed a DSC course in the past 12 months. CDL holders driving a commercial vehicle at the time of the citation are not eligible. Violations such as passing a school bus and failing to stop after an accident do not qualify.

Once the court approves your request, pick a course from the TDLR-approved list at tdlr.texas.gov. Online courses are available from many providers and can often be finished in one day. Submit your completion certificate to Lubbock Municipal Court when done. The case gets dismissed. DPS records it as a Type 3A dismissal rather than a conviction. Your driving record and insurance are protected.

Call Lubbock Municipal Court to confirm current court costs for DSC and any local procedures before you make your request. The city site at ci.lubbock.tx.us may also have current fee information posted.

Deferred Disposition

Under Art. 45.051 CCP, Lubbock Municipal Court judges may defer a case for 90 to 180 days on probation. If you meet the court's conditions and avoid new violations during the deferral period, the case is dismissed at the end with no conviction entered.

This option works well when you have already taken defensive driving within the past year and cannot use DSC again. The judge decides whether to grant deferred disposition, so it is not automatic. Ask about your eligibility at your first appearance or call the court ahead of time to understand whether your violation type qualifies and what conditions the court typically sets.

County Connection

Lubbock is the county seat of Lubbock County. Citations from county constables, sheriff deputies, and DPS troopers in unincorporated areas go to Lubbock County JP courts, which are separate from Lubbock Municipal Court. If your ticket was not issued by Lubbock Police, you likely need the county JP system for your records search.
