Lewisville Traffic Ticket Records

Lewisville traffic ticket records are managed by the Lewisville Municipal Court, which handles Class C misdemeanor citations issued by Lewisville police officers within city limits. Lewisville is a suburb in southern Denton County, close to the Dallas-Fort Worth border, with heavy traffic on IH-35E and SH-121. Citations from Denton County constables, the county sheriff, or state troopers on unincorporated roads go to Denton County JP courts rather than the city's municipal court. This page explains how to find your case, pay your fine, and explore options to protect your driving record.

It processes speeding tickets, red light violations, stop sign offenses, seat belt citations, and other Class C traffic matters. Tickets from Lewisville police go to this court. The officer agency printed on your citation tells you which court has the case. Your citation also lists the court date. You must respond before that date by paying, requesting a dismissal option, or showing up. Doing nothing results in a warrant and an OMNI hold blocking your Texas license renewal. Take action before the deadline on the ticket.

The TOPICs statewide citation portal at topics.txcourts.gov/CitationsPublic covers both Lewisville Municipal Court and Denton County JP courts. Search by citation number or driver's license number to find your case. TOPICs shows which court filed the case, the current status, and any outstanding balance. It is the fastest way to confirm which court has your ticket and what you owe.

The city website at cityoflewisville.com has contact information for the municipal court and links to payment tools. If you are not sure whether your ticket is city or county, start with TOPICs. The search takes under a minute and clears up any confusion about jurisdiction.

If you do not have your citation number, your driver's license number and name will usually locate the record. Call the court if the online search does not return results. Staff can look up the case and tell you the current balance and status.

Note: Paying a traffic fine in Texas is a guilty plea under Art. 27.14(c) CCP. The conviction is reported to Texas DPS and may affect your insurance rates. For moving violations, look at defensive driving or deferred disposition before paying.

Paying a Lewisville Traffic Fine

Lewisville Municipal Court accepts payment online, in person, and by mail. The city website at cityoflewisville.com links to the online payment portal. Online payment by credit or debit card is available outside of court hours. In-person payment is accepted during regular business hours at the municipal court. Bring your citation number and a photo ID.

Mail-in payment by check is also accepted. Make the check payable to Lewisville Municipal Court and include your citation number. Send it with time to spare before the due date. If the fine is a financial burden, ask about a payment plan before the due date. Courts generally allow installments when you ask before the deadline passes.

Missing the due date without contact leads to a warrant and an OMNI hold under Transportation Code Ch. 706. Clear it at texasfailuretoappear.com by paying the owed amount plus the $10 OMNI fee. Clearing the hold restores your ability to renew your Texas driver's license through DPS.

Defensive Driving in Lewisville

Eligible Lewisville drivers can get a ticket dismissed by completing a state-approved defensive driving course under Art. 45.0511 of the Code of Criminal Procedure. Request it before your court date. The ticket must be for a qualifying moving violation. You must not have taken a defensive driving course in the past 12 months. CDL holders driving a commercial vehicle at the time of the stop do not qualify.

Other disqualifying factors include a stop at 95 mph or more, failing to stop after an accident, passing a school bus illegally, or a violation in a construction zone with workers present. If none of those apply, mention DSC when you contact the court. Once approved, the court sets a deadline for completing the course and submitting the certificate.

Find TDLR-approved courses at tdlr.texas.gov. Both online and in-person options are available. Submit the certificate by the court's deadline. The court dismisses the case and DPS records a Type 3A dismissal, not a conviction. Your record stays clean and your insurance rates are not affected.

Deferred Disposition

Art. 45.051 of the Code of Criminal Procedure allows the Lewisville Municipal Court to grant deferred disposition. The judge suspends the case for a probation period of 90 to 180 days. If you stay out of trouble and meet the court's conditions during that period, the judge dismisses the case at the end with no conviction on your record.

Deferred is useful when DSC is not available. If you took a defensive driving course within the past year, you may still qualify for deferred even though DSC is off the table. Some judges make completion of a DSC course a condition of the deferral. Ask the court specifically about deferred disposition when you contact them. It is often the best path to a clean record when DSC is not an option.
