Irving Municipal Court

Irving Municipal Court processes all Class C misdemeanor traffic citations issued by Irving Police within city limits. The city's main website at cityofirving.org provides links to the municipal court section, including the courthouse address, phone number, business hours, and online payment portal. Court hours are generally Monday through Friday during standard business hours.

Irving is located in Dallas County, northwest of downtown Dallas and adjacent to DFW Airport. The city runs its own fully staffed municipal court that handles traffic cases separately from Dallas County JP courts. If you need to appear in person, bring your citation and a photo ID. Court staff can explain your options and answer questions about your case.

If your ticket was issued by a Dallas County constable, sheriff deputy, or DPS trooper rather than an Irving Police officer, your case is in a Dallas County JP court, not Irving Municipal Court. Check the issuing agency on your citation before you search either system.

Visit the City of Irving's website at cityofirving.org and navigate to the municipal court section. The court provides an online case search tool where you can look up your citation by citation number, name, or date of birth. This is the primary tool for Irving Municipal Court records.

The statewide TOPICs portal at topics.txcourts.gov/CitationsPublic also covers Irving Municipal Court and all other Texas courts. TOPICs is useful if you are not sure which court holds your case or if you want to search across the state court system in one step.

For Dallas County JP citations, search the county system separately. Dallas County and Irving Municipal Court do not share a single case search portal. The agency on your ticket tells you which system to check.

Note: Paying a traffic fine in Texas is treated as a guilty plea under Art. 27.14(c) CCP. DPS records the conviction on your driving record. Moving violations can push up insurance rates. Consider defensive driving or deferred disposition before paying, especially for speeding citations.

Payment Options

Pay online through the Irving Municipal Court portal linked at cityofirving.org. Online payment accepts credit and debit cards and is usually available around the clock. This is the most convenient option if you plan to pay without contesting the ticket and want to avoid a courthouse visit.

In-person payment is accepted at Irving Municipal Court during regular business hours, Monday through Friday. Bring your citation and a valid photo ID. Cash, check, money order, and card are generally accepted. Call the court ahead to confirm current payment methods before making the trip, especially if you plan to pay cash.

Mail-in payment by check or money order is also an option. Write your citation number on the memo line and mail to the address listed on your citation or on the city website. Allow enough processing time to ensure your payment arrives before your court date.

Defensive Driving (DSC)

Irving Municipal Court allows eligible drivers to complete a state-approved defensive driving course to get their citation dismissed. Under Art. 45.0511 CCP, you must request DSC before your court date. You cannot have completed a DSC course in the past 12 months. CDL holders driving a commercial vehicle at the time of the citation are not eligible. Violations such as passing a school bus and failing to stop after an accident do not qualify for DSC.

Once approved, select a course from the TDLR-approved list at tdlr.texas.gov. Many online courses can be completed in a single day. After finishing, submit your certificate to Irving Municipal Court. The case gets dismissed. DPS records it as a Type 3A dismissal, not a conviction. Your driving record stays clear, and the citation does not affect your insurance rates the way a guilty finding would.

Contact Irving Municipal Court to confirm current court costs for DSC and any Irving-specific procedures before you request dismissal.

Deferred Disposition

Under Art. 45.051 CCP, Irving Municipal Court judges can defer a case for 90 to 180 days. If you meet the court's conditions and have no new violations during the probation period, the case is dismissed when the deferral ends. No conviction is recorded.

This is a good option when DSC is not available because you completed a course in the past year. The judge has discretion to approve or deny deferred disposition. Ask about it at your first appearance or call the court ahead of time to find out whether your violation qualifies and what conditions the judge typically sets.

County Connection

Irving is in Dallas County. Citations from Dallas County constables, sheriff deputies, and DPS troopers in unincorporated areas go to Dallas County JP courts, which are separate from Irving Municipal Court. If your ticket was not issued by Irving Police, check the Dallas County JP system for your case.

The statewide TOPICs portal at topics.txcourts.gov/CitationsPublic covers Irving Municipal Court and all other Texas courts. If you missed a court date and suspect a hold on your license, check the OMNI program at texasfailuretoappear.com. OMNI adds a $10 fee and blocks license renewal under Transportation Code Ch. 706.

Your Texas driving record is available through Texas DPS. After your case closes, order a Type 2A or 3A record to verify how the outcome was recorded. This is worth doing after a DSC dismissal or deferred disposition to confirm no conviction appears.
