Garland Traffic Ticket Records
Garland Municipal Court handles Class C misdemeanor traffic citations issued by Garland Police Department officers within city limits. Dallas County JP courts handle citations from county officers and are a separate system. This page explains how to search for your Garland traffic ticket record, pay your fine, and look into options for dismissal that may protect your driving record and insurance rates.
Garland Quick Facts
Garland Municipal Court
Garland Municipal Court processes all Class C traffic citations issued by Garland Police within city limits. The city's main website at garlandtx.gov links to the municipal court section with the courthouse address, phone number, court hours, and online payment portal. Court hours are generally Monday through Friday during standard business hours.
Garland is a major city in eastern Dallas County, northeast of downtown Dallas. The city operates its own municipal court system that is completely separate from Dallas County JP courts. If you need to appear in person, bring your citation and a valid photo ID. The court clerks can answer questions about your options and current fine amounts.
If your ticket was issued by a Dallas County constable, sheriff deputy, or DPS trooper rather than a Garland Police officer, your case is in a Dallas County JP court. The two systems are separate. Check the issuing agency on your citation before you decide where to search or call.
How to Search Garland Citation Records
Visit the City of Garland's website at garlandtx.gov and navigate to the municipal court section. The court provides a case search tool where you can look up your citation by citation number, name, or date of birth. This is the primary online resource for Garland Municipal Court records and the fastest way to check your case status.
The statewide TOPICs portal at topics.txcourts.gov/CitationsPublic also covers Garland Municipal Court along with all other Texas courts. Use TOPICs as a backup if you are not sure which court has your case or if you want to run a quick check across the state court system.
For Dallas County JP citations, search the county system separately. Garland and Dallas County records are not in the same portal. The agency listed on your ticket will tell you whether to search city or county records first.
Note: Paying a traffic fine in Texas is a guilty plea under Art. 27.14(c) CCP. DPS records the conviction. Moving violations can raise your insurance premiums. Consider defensive driving or deferred disposition before paying, especially for speeding tickets.
Payment Options
Pay online through the Garland Municipal Court payment portal linked at garlandtx.gov. Online payment accepts credit and debit cards and is available around the clock. This is the easiest option if you plan to pay the fine without contesting the ticket and do not want to visit the courthouse.
In-person payment is accepted at Garland Municipal Court during regular business hours, Monday through Friday. Bring your citation and a valid photo ID. Cash, check, money order, and card are generally accepted. Call the court ahead to confirm accepted payment methods before you go, especially if you plan to pay a large amount in cash.
Mail-in payment by check or money order is also an option. Write your citation number on the memo line and mail to the court address listed on your ticket or on the city website. Send it with enough lead time to arrive before your court date and avoid a failure to appear.
Defensive Driving (DSC)
Garland Municipal Court allows eligible drivers to dismiss a traffic citation by completing a state-approved defensive driving course. Under Art. 45.0511 CCP, you must request DSC before your court date. You cannot have completed a DSC course in the past 12 months. CDL holders driving a commercial vehicle when cited are not eligible. Passing a school bus, failing to stop after an accident, and certain other violations do not qualify for DSC.
After the court approves your request, choose a course from the TDLR-approved list at tdlr.texas.gov. Online courses are available from many providers and can often be finished in one sitting. Submit your certificate to Garland Municipal Court when you are done. The case gets dismissed. DPS records it as a Type 3A dismissal rather than a conviction. Your driving record stays clean and your insurance rates are not affected the way they would be by a guilty finding.
Contact Garland Municipal Court to confirm the current court fees for DSC and any specific Garland procedures required before you make your request.
Deferred Disposition
Under Art. 45.051 CCP, Garland Municipal Court judges can defer a case for a probation period of 90 to 180 days. If you meet the court's conditions and avoid new violations during that time, the judge dismisses the case when the period ends. No conviction on your record.
Deferred disposition is useful when you already completed a defensive driving course in the past year and are not eligible for DSC again. The judge decides whether to grant it, so it is not automatic. Ask about deferred disposition at your first appearance or call the court ahead of your court date to see whether your violation qualifies and what conditions are typically set.
County Connection
Garland is in Dallas County. Citations from Dallas County constables, sheriff deputies, and DPS troopers in unincorporated areas of the county go to Dallas County JP courts, which are separate from Garland Municipal Court. If your ticket was not issued by Garland Police, check the Dallas County JP system for your case.

If you missed a court date, check for OMNI holds at texasfailuretoappear.com. OMNI adds a $10 fee and blocks license renewal under Transportation Code Ch. 706 until the case is resolved.
Your Texas driving record is available from Texas DPS. After your case closes, ordering a Type 2A or 3A record lets you confirm how the outcome was recorded. This matters especially if you got a DSC dismissal or deferred disposition and want to verify no conviction appears.
