Dallas Municipal Court

Dallas Municipal Court is located at 2014 Main St, Dallas, TX 75201. Phone: 214-670-5566. Regular hours are Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday hours extend to 6:00 p.m. to accommodate people who cannot come in during the standard workday. The court's city hall information is at dallascityhall.com.

The Dallas Municipal Court online payment and search portal is at dallastx.municipalonlinepayments.com/dallastx/court/search. This is where you look up citations, check case status, and pay fines. A convenience fee of up to $3.50 applies per online transaction.

Be aware that paying your fine online or by any other method is treated as a guilty plea under Texas law. The court records a conviction and reports it to Texas DPS. For moving violations like speeding, that can affect your insurance. Read the payment and dismissal sections below before you decide to just pay and move on.

Go to the Dallas court search portal at dallastx.municipalonlinepayments.com/dallastx/court/search to look up your case. You can search by citation number, name, date of birth, or driver's license number. The portal shows the current status of the case, the fine amount, and any upcoming court dates.

The statewide TOPICs tool at topics.txcourts.gov/CitationsPublic is another option. It covers Dallas Municipal Court as well as all JP courts and other municipal courts across Texas. If you are not sure whether your ticket went to Dallas Municipal Court or a Dallas County JP court, TOPICs can help clarify.

Dallas County constables and sheriff deputies issue tickets that go to Dallas County JP courts, not Dallas Municipal Court. Check the issuing agency on your citation. Dallas Police Department citations go to municipal court. County officers' citations go to JP court.

Note: Under Art. 27.14(c) CCP, paying a traffic fine in Texas equals a guilty plea. The conviction goes to your DPS record. Moving violations may raise insurance premiums. Defensive driving and deferred disposition are worth looking into before you pay.

Payment Options

Pay online at dallastx.municipalonlinepayments.com/dallastx/court/search. The portal accepts credit cards and debit cards. A convenience fee of up to $3.50 per transaction applies. This is the quickest way to pay without visiting the courthouse.

In-person payment is accepted at 2014 Main St during court hours: Monday through Friday 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Tuesday until 6 p.m. Bring your citation and a valid ID. The court takes cash, check, money order, and card. If you plan to pay in person on a Tuesday evening, arrive well before 6 p.m. as processing lines can be long near closing.

Mail-in payments by check or money order are also accepted. Write your citation number on the memo line and mail to 2014 Main St, Dallas, TX 75201. Allow several days for processing and send early enough to avoid a failure to appear if you are close to your court date.

Defensive Driving (DSC)

Dallas Municipal Court allows eligible drivers to dismiss a traffic citation by completing a state-approved defensive driving course. Under Art. 45.0511 CCP, you must request DSC before your court date. You cannot have completed a DSC course in the past 12 months. CDL holders driving a commercial vehicle at the time of the citation are not eligible. Certain violations such as passing a school bus or failing to stop after an accident do not qualify.

After the court approves your request, choose a course from the TDLR-approved list at tdlr.texas.gov. Many people complete the course online in a single day. Submit your certificate to the court after you finish. The case is dismissed and DPS records a Type 3A dismissal, which does not count as a conviction and does not affect your insurance the same way a guilty finding would.

Call 214-670-5566 to ask about current DSC fees before you appear. Dallas charges a court cost for the DSC option in addition to any course fee you pay the provider.

Deferred Disposition

Art. 45.051 CCP lets Dallas Municipal Court judges place a case on deferred disposition. The case is paused for a probation period, typically 90 to 180 days. Meet the court's conditions and stay out of trouble during that window, and the judge dismisses the case when the period ends. No conviction.

Deferred is a good option when DSC is not available because you took a course within the past year. The judge decides whether to grant it, so it is not automatic. Some judges set conditions such as completing a defensive driving course even during deferral. Ask about deferred disposition before or at your first appearance so you know what to expect. Call the court at 214-670-5566 ahead of time if you want to prepare.

County Connection

Dallas sits in Dallas County. Citations issued by Dallas County constables, sheriff deputies, or DPS troopers go to Dallas County JP courts, not Dallas Municipal Court. The two systems do not share records or payment portals. If your ticket was not issued by Dallas Police, check the Dallas County JP courts for your case.

State Resources

The statewide TOPICs search at topics.txcourts.gov/CitationsPublic covers Dallas Municipal Court and all other Texas courts. If you missed a court date, check whether an OMNI hold is blocking your license at texasfailuretoappear.com. OMNI charges a $10 fee on top of your fine and blocks license renewal until you pay. Transportation Code Ch. 706 governs the program.

Your Texas driving record is available through Texas DPS. After your case closes, order a Type 2A or 3A record to confirm the outcome was recorded correctly, especially if your case was dismissed.
